Trump holds meeting with Chevron, energy leaders to discuss oil supply

US President Donald Trump met top officials from Chevron and other energy companies on Tuesday.

The meeting focused on US oil production, oil futures, shipping, and natural gas, a White House official said on Wednesday.

The discussion comes at a time of heightened volatility in global energy markets.

The meeting aimed to gather industry feedback on both domestic and international developments impacting supply and pricing.

Chevron CEO highlights global market concerns

Chevron confirmed that its Chief Executive Officer, Mike Wirth, attended the meeting, as cited in Axios report.

A company spokesperson said Wirth discussed global oil markets, which have been disrupted by the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran.

The conflict has contributed to uncertainty in oil supply chains.

This has raised concerns about price fluctuations and availability.

Industry leaders used the meeting to share their perspectives on these developments.

Senior officials attend White House meeting

The meeting included several senior administration officials.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were present.

The meeting was first reported by Axios.

The presence of senior officials underlines the administration’s focus on energy policy amid rising market pressures.

Oil prices remain a political concern

High oil prices pose a challenge for Trump’s Republican allies ahead of the upcoming midterm congressional elections in November.

Elevated fuel costs could impact voter sentiment.

A White House official said, “The executives all spoke highly of the actions President Trump has taken to unleash American energy dominance, and said the President is doing all the right things right now,” as cited in a Reuters report.

Policy measures aimed at stabilising markets

The Trump administration has taken several steps to address energy market concerns.

Last week, it granted a 90-day waiver extension to the Jones Act.

This allows foreign-flagged vessels to transport commodities such as oil products and fertiliser between United States ports.

Earlier this month, the administration also invoked the Defense Production Act.

This authorises the Pentagon and the Department of Energy to take measures, including purchases, to expand domestic energy supply.

The goal is to reduce prices for consumers.

Further actions under consideration

The White House official said Donald Trump regularly meets with energy executives to gather insights into market conditions.

The administration may consider additional measures to lower fuel prices.

These could include easing pollution regulations at refineries.

Such steps are aimed at increasing output and stabilising supply.

The discussions highlight the administration’s continued engagement with the energy sector.

They also reflect ongoing efforts to manage market volatility and address price pressures affecting consumers.
